Less than 10 years ago, Australia wild harvested fish to meet market demands. We now farm many species. As the world’s population increases, demands increase. It has been necessary to supply the market with other than wild harvested fish to meet market demands, ensuring the continuation of our ocean resources well into the next millennium. Australian Seahorses were placed under the Wildlife Protection Act in 1998 and their conservation status is considered vulnerable. Seahorse populations throughout the world are diminishing. To ensure seahorses are around to be enjoyed by future generations, many strategies need to be implemented. We believe that by farming seahorses and offering them for sale to the aquarium trade, along with an education program encouraging the world to purchase “Captive Bred Seahorses” to be a step in the right direction. Captive bred Seahorses are a delight to keep, they not only offer the hobbyist a hardier and easier to keep aquarium pet, but they also readily accept frozen foods. This web site was created to give the hobbyists an introduction to the care requirements of seahorses, to further enhance knowledge, ensuring the health and longevity of a beautiful species. |
